… In his earlier works, Sayler represented a radical form of Constructivism with an extreme reduction of the elements and a dialectic dichotomy of black and white. This tendency towards reduction, which characterises his work from the sixties, is particularly indicative of the techniques he selected in the eighties. During this period he realised, and emphasised, in a series of publications and lectures, that the historical adventure of Concrete Art and Constructivism was over; at least in the sense of an aesthetic experience that is associated with the intellectual climate of the twenties and thirties, with such well-known artists as Malevich and his Suprematism on the one hand and Mondrian and his Theosophy on the other hand …

… In un primo tempo Sayler aderisce a un Costruttivismo radicale, come il più riduttivo dei concretisti, agendo l'estremismo dialettico del bianco e nero. Questa attitudine riduttiva, legata all'opera degli anni Settanta, è fondamentale premessa alle scelte operative degli anni Ottanta. Anni in cui realizza e sottolinea attraverso scritti e conferenze, che l'avventura storica dell'Arte Concreta e del Costruttivismo è conclusa, in quanto esperienza estetica legata alla temperie intellettuale degli anni Venti e Trenta, quando i referenti sono il Suprematismo di Malevic, da una parte, e la Teosofia di Mondrian, dell'altra.
